From morning sickness to food cravings, pregnancy is tailor made for each and every woman. Despite our differences, when you eventually need to lose the pregnancy weight your goal should be to maintain a healthy weight for you and your baby.

You could be the one lucky Mom-to-be with no morning sickness but have intense food cravings. Or you could be the one, like my poor sister-in-law, with morning sickness for the entire pregnancy. But her advantage was that she was able to lose the pregnancy weight in no time. Despite morning sickness or specific food aversions, a pregnant mother must eat. What she has to watch out for is the type of food and how much of it she’s eating.

Consuming the essential nutrients is vital throughout pregnancy. Constantly feeling hungry and satisfying your hunger by eating anything and everything in your grasp can put you on the slippery slope to gain more weight than you should. Don’t forget that losing the pregnancy weight is harder than putting the weight on. Plus the added disadvantage of having that excess weight can increase your chances of having health problems such as high blood pressure or gestational diabetes during your pregnancy.

Okay so you’re pregnant and you’re eating for two but not for two adults. Your baby requires you to eat only an extra three hundred calories for it’s proper growth and development. Sorry Moms, pregnancy is not an excuse to over eat because excessive weight gain can make losing the pregnancy weight an unnecessary burden on your time, self-esteem and overall health.

We are told to listen to our bodies. So if your pregnant body is telling you to eat, then you should eat. But you should feed your hunger with healthy food choices instead of just grabbing a bag of Doritos. When you maintain a healthy pregnancy weight now you will lose the pregnancy weight more rapidly later and be healthier for it.

One of the most common methods to lose the pregnancy weight is to have a healthy diet. This is an easy rule to follow. Keep hydrated and eat foods high in nutritional value and low in fats, salts and sugar. This applies to all your daily meals and snacks. Not only will you stay satisfied but you will also stay within your targeted weight gain for you and your baby.

When you eat more often but eat less, you will be constantly satisfying your cravings and preventing hypoglycemia. Six small meals during the day will help keep you on track to eat healthy instead of being tempted to go for the junk food quick fix. Less truly is more for you to lose the pregnancy weight and to stay healthy.

Exercise is good for you whether you are pregnant or not. It is also a smart way to sustain a healthy pregnancy weight gain. Try to do a minimum of thirty minutes of brisk exercise three or four days per week. Find a variety of exercises that you enjoy such as walking, swimming or yoga and make it an essential part of your day.

Make good use of your nine months to eat right and exercise often. This will get your body ready to lose the pregnancy weight quickly after the baby. Be your own cheerleader and strive for a healthy pregnancy. A healthy Mom results in a healthy baby.
