Why should we expect the hogs at the trough to suddenly put themselves on a diet? Why continue giving money with no rules, expecting executives to do the "right" thing? Hello! Why not a grant process when companies want money, complete with plans of exactly how the funds will be used, up front?

I’ve been burned many times the same way. I was the "giver" in most of my friendships but hardly ever the recipient. I finally got tired of it and decided to be more choosy about "giving". Where I have gotten is this: I still love to help my "friends" in any way I can, however I am no longer disappointed when they don’t respond in what I feel is the appropriate way. It’s that now I don’t expect anything in return, and therefore am much less disappointed when it doesn’t happen. I have sadly accepted that some people are just flaky and not givers like me and I can’t change it OR them. That’s the big thing I’ve learned…I can’t change them, I can only change me. It’s a sad thing to have to learn, but it really has helped to no longer expect the same kind of friendship in return.

Like your other friend, I’m also the one who plans all of the B-day’s just to be told, oh, I’m on a diet, I’m not eating cake and ice cream today. Or the birthday person got too drunk prior to dinner to appreciate all of the effort I went through in making it after working all day and while taking care of a baby. Or I hear, "oh, my new friends threw me a surprise party and bought me cake and gifts - it was so nice of them" after I had already made her favorite kind of cake, bought gifts and delivered them to her, but she wouldn’t eat the cake and gave it back to me.

But, that’s the way other people are. I try to make sure that’s not me.

The 12-day grapefruit diet has been one of the most popular diet plans in the past ten years. Its popularity and staying power may have got to do with the simple fact that it works. This program spans over 12 days where you will have to stick to a meal…

i agree with the people that say to cut your meals in half. if you don't have much time to actually go on a diet with a family then just serve yourself half of what you would regularily eat.. oh and also try to excercise as much as possible whenever you get a chance!! even if its for a lil bit! you would still be doing something! always stay moving!! good luck and hope you stick with whatever you choose to do!!

I think you just completely summed up why I found the book so powerful. It helps you see the stage your on and understand how to successfully proceed to the next stage. I’m having the same issue with my diet. I’ve relapsed right now and the reason I relapsed is because I didn’t fully prepare before. I’m in the process of educating myself, making meal plans, and re-evaluating my capabilities to make the change I want to make — that is, what can I do actually given my current circumstances that doesn’t send me back down the path to relapse? Strongly recommend you read the book. My summary here doesn’t do it justice.

Go to the Mens Health website and click on the "Discussions" link. They have bulletin boards where you can ask questions and get a ton of information on diet and exercise to meet any goal, including bulking up for football. As for supplements, the only supplements you should even consider using are whey protein and creatine. They are the only two that have been proven to work, and they are 100% safe. Just about every bodybuilder uses whey protein, and a lot of them use creatine.
