The aloe vera plant is pretty ugly, isn’t it? While aloe vera is an odd looking plant and it’s true that many people don’t find it particularly attractive to look at, aloe vera is also one of the oldest medicinal plants in the history.

One of the many uses of aloe vera is to treat digestive issues and intestinal upsets. Dr. Jeffrey Bland of the Linus Pauling Institute has done research on the health benefits of aloe vera on the intestinal tract, and found several beneficial effects. These health benefits include increased protein digestion and absorption, and a greater volume of water in the stool, which is an important factor in reducing the symptoms from irritable bowel syndrome.
